Affirmations are a set of words used to help you rebuild
patterns that you would like to possess within your
unconscious mind. Many times, we have old programs that are
the root cause of most unhealthy behaviors that we find
ourselves stuck to.
Affirmations can be beneficial by
helping you to reprogram your
thought patterns, in order to
be accepting of new beliefs.
1. Determine What You Want
In order to use affirmations, you must know what you are
striving for.
2. Choose Words That Are Positive
Affirmations must include phrases that are positive. You do
not want to express the things you don't want, so reword
your affirmation so that it explicitly reflects the things
you want to achieve.
For example, an affirmation will not
work if it is worded in a negative stance.
You should not
say, "I no longer want to work at (current position)."
Instead... say what you
want. For example, "I will be a super (job title) before June."
3. Be Specific
Your affirmations should always include a definite time
line. Do not use wishy-washy language that could be
interpreted as, "some day." You should outline definitive
times in your affirmations.
For example, if you want a new
job within the next 3 months, you should state, "I will be
employed as a (job title) within the next 90 days." Once the time line begins to get closer, you can reword your affirmation to be in the present tense. "I am a great (job title) and I am happy and grateful to be in this position!"
Affirmations can be stated verbally or mentally, but should
be used on a regular basis.
Consistency is key to helping
your mind accept the new patterns you wish to instill or the beliefs you wish to incorporate.
